This is a general course for all students in Shenzhou Open University. All course information, changes, and notification will be published in this course

This module aims to holistically and critically examine in depth the clinical aspects of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, provide students with typical clinical cases and examine in detail the approaches and applications of clinical acupuncture.

This module provides opportunities for students to critically appraise and selectively identify appropriate and collaborative approaches to clinical acupuncture treatment, which enable students to achieve the following:

  • to evaluate the clinical conditions and independently produce appropriate and detailed acupuncture treatment strategies;
  • to identify red flags and the need to refer patients to other health care professionals when necessary;
  • to facilitate the development of autonomous, collaborative and safe practice;
  • to explore and develop an understanding of the ethical issues involved in treating patients.

This module aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). We seek to equip students with the essential skills of the classical “Four TCM Diagnostic Methods”, as well as a holistic approach to diagnosing conditions and illnesses according to the different systems of syndrome differentiation. This module also aims to enable students to develop personal and professional skills, necessary in order to engage in clinical work ethically and with self-awareness.

This course intends to lay an indispensable and essential foundation for students who will then seek to study further: Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and/or Tuina.
